GIANTX and MKOI will have to win tomorrow to avoid a 0-2 week
The 2025 LEC Spring Split has arrived, introducing the European audience to its new regular split in a BO3 format. So far, Sheep Esports' power ranking is holding up well. The first day saw the favorites emerge victorious, as Fnatic easily defeated GIANTX, Team Heretics dominated Rogue, and G2 managed to escape the trap set by Movistar KOI.
As usual in the first days of a split in Europe, games were frequently interrupted by numerous pauses, making the first day quite long for viewers. Nevertheless, it was enjoyable to see the teams play at least two games, revealing more about their form at the start of the split. The fearless draft format also added to the spectacle, offering more variety in gameplay.
No surprises
As expected, the first BO3 series saw the Black and Orange dominate. With a clear gap in class between the two teams, Fnatic's much stronger early game made the matches extremely one-sided. GIANTX will need to perform much better tomorrow at 5 PM CET against Team Vitality to regain confidence.
The second series of the day did little to reassure about Rogue's level. Despite Adam "Adam" Maanane dominating Carl "Carlsen" Carlsen in the toplane, a series of individual and team-wide mistakes prevented them from making a single impactful play across both games. Team Heretics, on the other hand, made a strong start to their split and showed continued improvement—especially Kamil "Kamiloo" Haudegond, who secured MVP with a 7/2/13 scoreline and a standout Game 2 performance on Cho'Gath.
The most anticipated matchup of the day featured the Samurais taking on Ibai "Ibai" Llanos’s Spanish squad. While the 2-1 scoreline might suggest a close series, G2 ultimately outclassed Movistar KOI, particularly in macro play during game 3, proving there is still a gap between the two teams. Rookie Rudy "Skewmond" Semaan claimed the MVP, but Rasmus "Caps" Winther's commanding performance in the midlane was also noteworthy—an encouraging sign after a somewhat underwhelming Winter Split from Europe's greatest player. MKOI will now have to bounce back tomorrow against Karmine Corp, the current king of the league, who will make their debut in the second series of the day.
