Calix was named MVP in just his third best-of series in the LCK
Week 4 of the LCK kicked off with matchups between mid and lower-table teams. KT Rolster picked up their second straight win, this time against DRX, who are now on a six-game losing streak. Meanwhile, Nongshim RedForce returned to winning form with a victory over BNK FEARX, thanks in large part to a standout performance from rookie midlaner Syun "Calix" Hyun-bin, recently promoted from the academy. Calix was named MVP of the second game, while veteran Gwak "Bdd" Bo-seong earned the honors in the first.
KT is bouncing back
After a rough start to the split, KT Rolster is finally finding its rhythm, especially following the promotions of Shin "Casting" Min-je to the toplane and Jeong "Peter" Yoon-su to the support role. Built around the veteran presence of Bdd and Moon "Cuzz" Woo-chan, the team is starting to click, with the rookies steadily growing into their roles. Their progress has been reflected in the standings, as KT now sit in 6th place in LCK Round 1-2.
Today’s series against DRX showcased their growth. The first game was initially controlled by Lee "Rich" Jae-won and DRX, but a decisive Chemtech Drake fight at the 40-minute mark flipped the game in KT’s favor. The second match was far more one-sided, with KT dictating the pace throughout. Casting led the damage charts on Aatrox, while Bdd delivered another clinical performance on Taliyah to help secure the 2–0.
A promising rookie in the LCK
The player of the day was undoubtedly the young Calix, who is only on his third BO3 in the LCK. Recently promoted from Nongshim’s academy, the 18-year-old mid laner has shown impressive performances, highlighting the effectiveness of the Korean training system. Nongshim dominated the best-of series against FEARX, another surprising team this split. They are currently 4th in the LCK with four wins and three losses.
The first game was a bloody affair with no fewer than 45 kills. Calix finished with an impressive 11/1/10 score on Ryze. A chaotic fight around the Atakhan saw all players die except for Jung "Jiwoo" Ji-woo, who secured a quadrakill on Zeri. The second game was Calix's playground, where, playing Azir, he pulled off a clutch ultimate to win a fight almost single-handedly, even though many of his teammates had already died. That fight allowed them to extend their gold lead and close out the game in Nongshim's favor.
Tomorrow, Gen.G will face DN Freecs in what seems to be the most one-sided match of the LCK, given the stark difference in form between the two teams. Hanwha Life Esports will take on OKSavingsBank BRION in a best-of series that also appears to heavily favor HLE.
