The four LCK and LPL teams are directly in Swiss Stage
This Saturday morning, the official LPL stream unveiled a video detailing the format of the League of Legends 2024 World Championship. The main information is that the 3rd seeds from the LEC and LCS will participate in the play-ins in Berlin, along with the two PCS teams (PSG Talon and Fukuoka SoftBank HAWKS Gaming), the two VCS teams (GAM Esports and Vikings Esports), the CBLOL team, and the LATAM team (Movistar R7).
These eight teams will compete in a double-elimination bracket in a best-of-three (BO3) format, with the top four qualifying for the Swiss Stage. The LCK, with MSI champion Gen.G, and the LPL, as the second-best MSI region, will send their four representatives directly to the Swiss Stage. The top two teams from the LEC and LCS also qualify directly for the Swiss Stage. Therefore, this Saturday evening's match between MAD Lions KOI and G2 Esports in the LEC Losers' Final is of utmost importance, as the winner will avoid the play-ins.
During the Swiss Stage, the 16 teams will need three wins to qualify for the Knockouts Stage, while three losses will result in elimination. The first matches will be played in a best-of-one (BO1) format, while the qualifying and elimination matches will be played in a BO3 format. Unlike last year, there will be no rematch between two teams who have already met during the Swiss Stage. Eight teams will qualify for the Knockouts Stage, which will be played entirely in a best-of-five (BO5) format in a single-elimination bracket.
