SK, BDS et MDK feature in our Team of the Week
This fourth week marked the end of the regular season of the LEC, the League of Legends EMEA Championship. While Rogue and Vitality have been eliminated from the playoffs race, everything remains to be done for the eight other teams, as they still have a chance of reaching the Season Finals. BDS, G2 Esports and SK Gaming all won their two games this week, while MAD Lions KOI had to come back from the grave to book their playoffs tickets. Three of these four teams are featuring in our Team of the Week.
Toplaner: Irrelevant (MVP)
Joel "Irrelevant" Miro Scharoll was underrated when he arrived in the LEC in the summer of 2022. Since then, he gone on to prove that he has a place in the elite, but it has to be said that he has not been the one in the spotlight at SK Gaming since the start of the Summer Split. The German had taken a back seat to his botlane. This week, Irrelevant seemed keen to remind everyone that he is also able to take games on his own. On Camille, against Vitality, the toplaner initiated all the winning phases for his team before finding the clutch flank which turn the game around.
Still, it was mainly on Gnar, against Korean newcomer Kim 'Canna' Chang-dong, that Irrelevant shone. Out of sight in his 1v1, the former T1 player was almost 1,500 golds behind his opponent at the 15-minute mark. The German then turned that advantage to his team by slaying the teamfight for the third dragon. His triple kill, once again, turned the game and enabled SK Gaming to secure the top spot in the Summer Split regular season.
Jungler: Sheo
Théo 'Sheo' Borile once again distinguished himself on two carrys this week. Facing two Spaniards, the Frenchman seemed keen to assert his dominance over the rivalry between the two communities. On Taliyah, against MDK, the jungler set the pace from the early game, being present on five of his team's six kills within 15 minutes. This involvement gave him a 900-golds advantage over Javier 'Elyoya' Prades, who was not in the mood to give up this week, losing just one of his four games while also showing great performances.
After bringing MAD Lions KOI to their knees, Sheo met one of the league's best jungler, Iván 'Razork' Martín, who soon suffered an even heavier rout than his compatriot. With an economic lead of over 1,000 golds at 15 minutes, the Frenchman mastered Fnatic, finishing the game with a 6/1/4 KDA.
Midlaner: nuc
It has to be said that the jungler was well supported by his midlaner, who put in some very convincing performances in his fourth week. With the first Lucian mid of the split, Ilias "nuc" Bizriken won his bet against Bartłomiej "Fresskowy" Przewoźnik, for his first match of the week.
Just like Sheo, he set the pace at the start of the game with a lead of almost 1,500 golds over his opponent just after the 15-minute mark, before having a decisive double kill to defend Baron Nashor. The Frenchman finished the match with 10 kills, before taking on a tough challenger the following day: Marek 'Humanoid' Brázda. With his Taliyah, nuc initially solokilled the Czech before becoming indomitable, thanks in particular to his numerous Seismics Shoves, which were at the origin of all his team's winning teamfights.
AD Carry: Supa
A MAD Lions KOI player had to be in the spotlight, as the Spanish structure qualified after four matches, including two tie-breakers and it was none other than the AD carry: David 'Supa' Martínez. First with Zeri, the Spaniard took on his responsibilities, always projecting himself forward and even taking a kill in the 2v2. He carried his team to the decisive tie-break match.
Opposed to Rogue for a second time, the Spaniard decided to reverse the match-up and, as if to confirm his dominance over Markos 'Comp' Stamkopoulos, he once again paved the way for MDK's victory. If his team had a clear mental reset for this final day, their 26-minute victory over Vitality to close out the regular season proved it once and for all, with Supa and his 9 kills leading the way.
Support: Labrov
Juste like his two team-mates, Labros 'Labrov' Papoutsakis had to give his all to help BDS pick up two wins. The Greek started the week 0/2/0 against MDK, but it wasn't long before he displayed his undeniable qualities with Rell. He especially started an aggressive play before the 15-minute mark to apologise for his two previous gifts.
Then, the Greek's flanks and engages were unleashed. Although he was a little less convincing on his Alistar, he was still good enough to help BDS topple a team like Fnatic. Labrov is our support of the week, especially because few supports really stood out this week. Although Mihael 'Mikyx' Mehle was also on the discussion (particularly for his Braum game against Vitality).
