Spanish Division 2 will disappear next year
As Sheep Esports mentioned in an article about French Div2, the revolution of the three-split season is coming to the ERL. According to our sources, the Superliga (LVP) — the Spanish League of Legends championship — will be adopting this format for the next three years (2025-2027). A final tournament at the end of the season —the "Superliga Finals"— will pit the top four teams against each other.
In 2025, the season will be divided as follows:
- Split 1 will be over seven weeks between January and March
- Split 2 will be over nine weeks between April and June
- Split 3 will be over seven or eight weeks between July and August
- Final Four, the "Superliga Finals" will be in September
Three EMEA Masters per year
According to Sheep Esports sources, this move to three splits will mean the addition of one edition of the EMEA Masters per year. There will therefore be three EMEA Masters in 2025: the first after Split 1, the second after Split 2 and the third after the Superliga Finals.
Also according to our sources, the Spanish Division 2 will disappear next year. The promotion/relegation tournament will therefore be contested between the bottom of the Superliga league table and the best teams in the “Circuito Tormenta”, the current local third tier. The LVP will also open the door to many new co-streamers by giving them the rights to stream Superliga games.
Additionally, according to sources, Riot Games has recently reached a verbal agreement with the Tournament Organizers of the ERL. Many of the TOs will remain the same as in the past, and this is also the case for the Spanish Superliga, where Riot Games is said to have reached an agreement with them (pending the signing of the legal documentation) for the next ERL licensing cycle. This cycle would cover the years 2025, 2026, and 2027, during which LVP would be responsible for organizing and managing the Spanish Superliga.
