Chovy finishes the series with a 17/0/17 scoreline against Freecs’ newly promoted midlaner, Pungyeon
It was a rough baptism of fire for DN Freecs' new midlaner, Lee "Pungyeon" Jong-hyuk, who had to face Jeong "Chovy" Ji-hoon in his very first LCK match. Gen.G dominated the game from start to finish, remaining undefeated in the league after seven matches. Meanwhile, DN Freecs continues to drown with a seventh consecutive loss. The team had made a roster change earlier in the day, subbing in Pungyeon for Lee "BuLLDoG" Tae-young in hopes of turning things around. In the second series of the day, Hanwha Life Esports took on OKSavingsBank BRION. The First Stand champions made quick work of BRO, improving to 6-1 and holding onto second place in the standings. BRION, now 2-5, sits in eighth.
The best team in the world?
The first half of the LCK Spring Split consists of 18 best-of-threes, with all teams facing each other in a double round-robin format. As the end of the first round approaches—only two series left—Gen.G remains the only undefeated team, boasting an impressive 7-0 record. They're currently the last unbeaten squad across all major leagues, excluding the LCP, which has only just begun.
This latest series marked the debut of a brand-new midlaner for Freecs, and Chovy made sure to welcome him in style: he topped the damage charts in both games, didn’t die once, and finished the series with a staggering 17/0/17 scoreline. Gen.G is playing at arguably one of the highest levels in the world right now. Park "Ruler" Jae-hyuk and Joo "Duro" Min-kyu have fully integrated into the roster and are keeping pace with the rest of the team seamlessly.
Following the leader closely
While Gen.G sits at the top of the standings, they are closely followed by Hanwha Life Esports, who are riding a six-series win streak. Today, against BRION, HLE once again delivered a dominant performance. In game one, Choi "Zeus" Woo-je took over on Jayce, finishing with a scoreline of 11/2/4 and dishing out over 30,000 damage—far too much for BRION to handle.
The second game was tighter, with BRION’s carries posing more of a challenge. Lee "Clozer" Ju-hyeon, in particular, stood out with a strong showing on Akali, winning out in the midlane. However, Han "Peanut" Wang-ho stepped up on his signature champion, Nidalee, and guided his team to victory. With the win, HLE firmly holds second place in the LCK standings with a 6-1 record.
Tomorrow, for the third day of the LCK week, KT Rolster will look to continue their momentum and secure a win against Nongshim RedForce. Meanwhile, T1 will face a tough challenge in a major clash against Dplus KIA. Should T1 lose, the reigning World Champions could find themselves at a 3-4 record, in a precarious position mid-table.
