SuperNova will continue to operate independently with NRG's resources.
NRG Esports has partnered with the organization SuperNova for the 2024 North American Challengers League (NACL), as confirmed by sources close to Sheep Esports. Further information indicates that the LCS organization engaged in discussions with several challenger teams prior to settling on this deal.
A Promising Partnership
Serving as North America’s developmental circuit, the NACL represents the second tier of competition beneath the League Championship Series (LCS). With the objective of offering a platform for emerging talents and aspiring professionals, the league has experienced major changes in recent times. Established in early 2023, the league first started with 16 teams, of which CLG, NRG’s predecessors, fielded two.
In the second half of 2023, major changes struck both the league and the organization, leading to NRG discontinuing both of its academic teams and pulling out of its predecessor’s efforts in the league. Having now stabilized its operations, the organization is looking to make a re-entry and invest in the developmental circuit during the 2024 season.
With its LCS roster built primarily around homegrown North American talent, this newborn partnership with NACL organization Supernova comes as a sensible move for the young organization. Joining FlyQuest and Team Liquid, the team will now be one of three LCS organizations actively investing in lower leagues. Per sources, Supernova are expected to retain full control over their branding and roster, while NRG will solely serve to provide resources and advice to the team's overall structure.
