Neon played in the LEC with Schalke 04 and Misfits Gaming
A second former Bee will join Beşiktaş Esports. Following Kyeong “Photon” Gyu-tae, Matúš “Neon” Jakubčík has reached a verbal agreement with the Turkish club for the upcoming TCL season, according to Sheep Esports sources. Additionally, Seo “TolanD” Sang-won will take up the midlane role, as previously reported. Photon and Neon briefly played together at Vitality during the 2023 LEC Winter Split, securing a fifth-place finish. While Photon retained his spot on the roster for two years, through the end of the 2024 season, Neon was replaced after just one split, making way for Elias “Upset” Lipp.
EUM Champion
Before joining Vitality, Neon began his journey in the regional elite of League of Legends as a substitute for Unicorns of Love during the summer of 2018. He participated in nearly half of the split with UOL but recorded a rather lackluster performance, achieving only two wins against six losses. Simultaneously, he explored the nascent ERL system by joining the LFL during its inaugural Spring 2019 season. Having already competed in numerous French tournaments, Neon adapted quickly, making an immediate impact: he reached the Spring Split final and later secured victory at the European Masters with Misfits Premier.
These standout performances earned Neon another chance in the LEC, playing a handful of games for Misfits Gaming during the tumultuous 2019 Summer Split. However, he still struggled to claim a permanent starting position in the league. This led him back to the ERL for another split, this time in the Prime League with Schalke 04. Once again, Neon proved himself dominant at the Tier 2 level, clinching the German championship in the Spring Split. This success eventually propelled him to Schalke 04’s main roster for the 2020 Summer Split.
Break the cycle
From there, Neon spent two and a half years competing in the LEC. After remaining with Schalke 04 through 2021, he returned to Misfits, this time as part of their main roster, in 2022. Both teams he accompanied until they departed from the LEC, as the German club left the league in 2022 and MSF ceased its League of Legends activities the following year. When Neon lost his place on Vitality's LEC team in 2023, he took the opposite route, returning to the academic team in the LFL. The following year, in 2024, he moved back to the Prime League, almost as though his career had become a cyclical journey through the LFL, LEC, and Prime League.
Neon’s 2024 season in the Prime League once again demonstrated his strength in ERLs. He reached the Spring final and secured third place in the Summer Split. However, this time, Neon decided to break the cycle and pursue a new challenge in Turkey. Beşiktaş Esports, his new team, experienced a mixed 2024 TCL season: an outstanding but heartbreaking Spring, where they suffered a reverse sweep in the grand final against Papara SuperMassive and fell short in the EMEA Masters final against Eintracht Spandau, followed by a far less impressive Summer Split, finishing in sixth place.
