The Korean Midlaner joins the LCS after a solid year in Europe
Midlaner Lee "Mask" Sang-hun has reached a verbal agreement with Immortals in the League Of Legends Championship Series (LCS), sources tell Sheep Esports on Tuesday. This marks the first North American region move of the offseason, with more expected in the coming week.
From East to West
Mask began his professional career in South Korea, representing organizations such as HLE Challengers and KT Challengers. After delivering promising results with the former, Mask made the transition to the European scene by joining Unicorns of Love Sexy Edition in the Prime League.
During his initial split in Europe, Mask showcased his skills impressively. His team secured the top spot in both the regular season and playoffs, earning them a place in the EMEA Masters. In the EMEA Masters, Unicorns of Love had a remarkable journey, advancing to the finals before narrowly falling to İstanbul Wildcats with a score of 2-3.
However, the potent South Korean duo of Mask and Jungler Lee "Peach" Min-gyu had to part ways following this successful campaign. Peach was signed by Excel Esports for the Summer split and eventually reached the LEC 2023 Summer Playoffs Finals.
In the Summer split, Mask and his team had another solid performance, securing their spot in the EMEA Masters as the second seed from the region. Nevertheless, this time, Unicorns of Love couldn't advance past the group stage despite finishing with a 3-3 score in Group D. Despite these results, Mask continued to be recognized as one of the best ERL mid laners.
A new adventure in the LCS
Immortals was a strong organization when they finished first place in their first-ever regular split in the LCS. Sadly, it has been a pretty downward run for the organization since then. This year, the team finished ninth place in Spring and tenth place in Summer.
For 2024, it can only get better. Mask seems like a solid choice for an organization that operates on a very low budget. However, considering that many LCS teams are affected by these economic difficulties, so it's not impossible to see a new roster built around Mask improve Immortals' results.
