"I was 14 and wanted to be a professional league player, I used to look up to Faker"
On the Clickbaited podcast with Mike Kent, James Stephen "MrBeast" Donaldson once again voiced his desire to own an esports team in the LCS, now known as LTA North. This isn’t the first time the YouTuber has expressed interest in joining the League of Legends competitive scene. Back at Worlds 2022, when asked on the broadcast if he planned to buy an LCS team, he responded without hesitation: "Oh, yeah. 100%. The question is when. When we do it, I want to have a team that makes it to a stage like this" as he gestured toward the stage set for the Grand Final between T1 and DRX.
"I'm doing it for the love of League of Legends"
The American YouTuber, who boasts over 367 million subscribers, has once again expressed his deep passion for League of Legends: "I'm not doing it for the love of esports, I'm doing it for the love of League of Legends." He also mentioned that his project could become a reality within the next three years—provided the scene remains strong: "Probably another three years realistically. We just have to keep the esports teams popping. I don't want to see a decline in viewership. I don't want to finally get a team, and we win Worlds, and everyone's like 'No one cares, League's dead'. Keep this going, one day, I'll step in."
MrBeast's connection to League of Legends goes way back: "I was 14 and just dumb, but I wanted to be a professional League player. I used to look up to Faker (Lee Sang-hyeok) and all the top players." That dream never came true, as he admitted: "Because I just suck, and I mean the highest rank I ever got was Platinum, so..."
