The Coaching Duo, United Once More
Following large internal changes in MAD Lions, Vitality has made a big acquisition in what is considered to be among the strongest coaches in the entirety of the EMEA circuit. With Mac and Pad now joining the squad, the team is poised to revamp and potentially improve its infrastructure for the upcoming competitive season.
Together, the British and Danish coaches have been through several iterations of the Spanish team. Mac, prior to this move, has coached the MAD Lions (and previously Splyce) ever since the start of 2018. With 6 years under his belt, the storied coach will move to a different organization for the first time since his ERL days. On the other end, Pad has been present with the team since early 2021, having worked alongside his British counterpart for the last 3 years as assistant and later strategic coach.
Under the banner of the Spanish organization, the duo have won the LEC three times and have attended every single World Championship during their tenure. In addition to these feats, the two also reached the semifinals of the Mid-Season Invitational in 2021, only losing to DWG KIA in a 5-games series.
In recent times, Pad also had the chance to take on greater duties with MAD Lions prior to leaving the team as he was appointed interim head coach during the 2023 World Championship due to Mac being unavailable during the tournament for familial reasons. Despite the team's best efforts, MAD would struggle at the tournament, eventually being eliminated from the swiss stage after losing to Worlds finalists Weibo Gaming.
With Vitality, the two hope to reproduce their past results along with former MAD Lions support Zdravets "Hylissang" Iliev Galabov, who has also reached an agreement with Vitality this week. While Mac is expected to take on the role of head coach, Pad will most likely retain his current position of strategic coach with former Vitality head coach Alexander "Carter" Cartwright assisting the pair.
