Jackies is the only player from last season to retain his spot for 2025
Last season, GIANTX took a bold gamble. The Spanish team recruited Adam “Jackies” Jeřábek, a player completely unknown to the general public who had spent three years competing in Hitpoint Masters, a minor ERL with limited competition in Tier 2 of the EMEA scene. However, the young Czech midlaner quickly proved his worth in the regional elite of League of Legends. Jackies emerged as GX's standout performer in an otherwise underwhelming year for the newly formed organization, born from the merger of EXCEL Esports and Giants.
Despite incremental progress—8th place in Winter, 7th in Spring, and 6th in Summer—the team failed to make a significant impact. Yet Jackies stood out as a bright spot, competing with the league’s best midlaners and earning the Rookie of the Year title. Unsurprisingly, he is the only player from last season to retain his spot for 2025. Even long-standing veteran Patrik “Patrik” Jírů, who had been with the team since 2020, will depart for the upcoming season.
Another experiment
The success of the Jackies experiment has inspired GX to take a substantially similar risk by signing Eren “Lot” Yıldız. The Turkish player’s two years in the LFL, with AEGIS and Team GO, were solid but not spectacular. However, Lot shone during the latter part of the 2024 season, leading the Red Storn to the semi-finals of the Summer EMEA Masters. While Lot was regarded as one of the better planners on the LFL and EMEA circuits, his promotion to the LEC was far from guaranteed. Still, GX’s track record lends credibility to this move, and a strong performance from Lot could further validate the organization’s recruitment methods.
In the jungle, after testing numerous players, GX have secured another Turkish player, Can “Closer” Çelik. A former LCS champion with 100 Thieves in Summer 2021, Closer made his LEC debut in Summer 2024 with Karmine Corp, revitalizing the team after a rocky start to the season. KC ultimately finished 4th in the Summer Split—insufficient for a Season Finals spot but enough to keep Closer in the LEC for another year.
Fnatic's botlane
Most notably, GX have added a prestigious botlane: Fnatic's former South Korean duo, Oh “Noah” Hyeon-taek and Yoon “Jun” Se-jun. The two players were essential for the Black and Orange in 2024 but were never able to break Fnatic's curse against their biggest rival, G2 Esports. The team lost three finals to the Samurai in 2024—Spring Split, Summer Split, and the Season Finals. Despite these setbacks, Noah and Jun were one of the best botlanes —maybe the best— in the LEC. With this addition, GIANTX enter 2025 with genuine and well-founded ambitions.
