Andil was also a GIANX option, the former team of IgNar
Last week, DRX announced the signing of Mun “Andil” Gwan-bin for the upcoming LCK season. After gaining experience in LCK AS and LCK CL, the 22-year-old support debuted in South Korea's top league last year with Kwangdong Freecs. As expected, Freecs struggled to compete with the league’s top-tier teams, finishing in the lower half of the standings in both splits: 6th in Spring, with a first-round playoff elimination against Hanwha Life Esports (0-3), and 7th in Summer.
No GIANTX reunion
However, Andil is not the first support DRX signed this offseason. According to Sheep Esports sources, veteran Lee “IgNar” Dong-geun was initially set to join the 2022 World Champions, reuniting with Lee “Juhan” Ju-han, his teammate from GIANTX in 2024. Despite signing a contract, the 2023 LCS champion with NRG ultimately backed out. The player and DRX mutually agreed to break the contract, leading to the organization signing another support for 2025.
As an interesting sidenote, Andil was seriously considered by GIANTX as a potential replacement for IgNar for the upcoming LEC season. At the start of the offseason, he and Mihael "Mikyx" Mehle were the two leading candidates for the GX support role. Later, Yoon "Jun" Se-jun entered the market, and his former Fnatic teammate Oh "Noah" Hyeon-taek recommended Jun to GX. If Jun had instead signed with SK Gaming, Andil would very likely have become GX’s new support.
DRX are seeking a fresh start after enduring a prolonged slump. Since its World Championship win, the team has struggled at the bottom of the standings, finishing 9th in three of the four 2023-2024 splits, including both last season. To shake things up, the organization has brought in two new solo laners: Lee “Rich” Jae-won for the toplane and Son “ucal” Woo-hyeon for the midlane. Juhan is another new addition but will share the jungle with Bae “Sponge” Young-jun, who held the position throughout 2024. Now, DRX are therefore focused on securing a fifth and final player for the AD Carry position.
DRX 2025 roster:
Top: Lee “Rich” Jae-won
Jungle: Bae “Sponge” Young-jun/Lee “Juhan” Ju-han
Mid: Son “ucal” Woo-hyeon
ADC: ?
Support: Mun “Andil” Gwan-bin
Head Coach: Kim “SSONG” Sang-soo
