Wei quit Royal Never Gives Up to engage with Bilibili Gaming
The competition will be proving tough in the Bilibili Gaming jungle. On Wednesday, the Chinese champions secured the services of Yan 'Wei' Yangwei, the now-former jungler of Royal Never Give Up. The move may come as a surprise given BLG's results this year: champions of the LPL Spring Split, China's competitive League of Legends circuit, and runner-up of the Mid-Season Invitational (MSI). For the moment, Peng 'XUN' Lixun's future remains unknown.
What's more, it's impossible to predict the conditions under which Wei was recruited. Would he come as a replacement for his counterpart in the jungle, or would he oust him altogether? It seems astonishing that a two-time MSI champion such as Wei would join a team as a replacement. But it would seem equally surprising to see a raw talent like Xun, who has been steadily developing with his young team since last year, jump ship after a title and a second-place finish on the international stage.
Xun dismissed?
However, BLG's official account announces Wei as "THE" jungler, and his arrival as the creation of a new chapter for the organization. We'll at least have to wait until July 12 for some answers when BLG returns to the Rumble Stage to face none other than Top Esports, their runner-up in spring. But we could also maybe see a 6-man roster gradually emerge in the future.
For such an eagerly awaited match, there is no doubt that BLG will be pulling out all the stops by fielding the player judged to be the best for the team. As a reminder, Wei has been going through a complicated period with RNG since the start of 2023, fluctuating between 7th and 14th place. Between 2021 and 2022, however, he won two MSIs, in addition to his two LPL Spring Championship titles. Moreover, Royal Never Give Up had to break its contract, valid until November 2025, to allow this transfer.
