FlyQuest and Cloud9 have announced they will be streaming their scrims, giving fans a rare behind-the-scenes look at their practice sessions in LTA North.
FlyQuest has announced that they will stream their scrims against Cloud9 on February 4th at 11:45 AM PST on their Twitch channel, featuring live player comms and post-game reviews. Additionally, each player will have the opportunity to stream their POV on their respective Twitch channels.
Various Opinions from the Scene
Last week, after defeating Shopify Rebellion, Bwipo mentioned in an interview that most teams were refusing to scrim against them on stream — something the team had previously brought up behind the scenes — and arguiing that teams had not been practicing during the off-season. The League of Legends ecosystem quickly picked up on the topic, with many people sharing their opinions. G2's General Manager, Romain Bigeard, strongly opposed the idea, emphasizing the importance of scrim privacy.
Christopher "PapaSmithy" Smith, currently president and chief gaming officer of FlyQuest, explained their reasoning in a video. He highlighted the streamed scrims Caedrel and Los Ratones, as well as past examples like TSM and Epik Gamers. FlyQuest will stream their scrims and upload them to YouTube to draw more attention to LTA North — especially following FlyQuest’s impressive run at Worlds 2024. He also asserted that, at worst, revealing their strategies on stream would only help them improve and ultimately send stronger teams to represent the region in international tournaments.
He also issued a disclaimer, stating that voice communications between players and coaching staff will not be censored. As a result, some comments may be off-color and there may be slips of the tongue, even though the players are aware they are on air. He also expressed his hope that the players will remain focused on their scrims rather than playing for the Twitch chat and the stream.
To conclude, he mentioned that each team has its own approach to scrims —some start the week focusing on learning and expanding their champion pool, while later in the week, they shift to a more competitive mindset, playing to win in order to be as prepared as possible for their on-stage matches.
