All the BO3s went to three games this weekend
The Madrid Roadshow came to an end this Sunday at the Caja Mágica. In front of 12,000 fans, Europe’s "Clasico" took place, with Fnatic emerging victorious after defeating G2 Esports 2-1. We also witnessed the Spanish derby, where Movistar KOI claimed a 2-1 win over a fired-up GIANTX squad. Thanks to these results, MKOI was the big weekend winner, being the only team to win both of their BO3s in front of their home crowd. Overall, the Roadshow was a major success, with the atmosphere widely praised by observers and teams.
G2 struggling
The Samurai had kicked off their Spring Split in perfect fashion with three straight wins, but have now suffered three consecutive losses, sliding into the middle of the standings. This defeat to Fnatic is especially historic: it’s rare enough for Fnatic to beat G2 in recent years, but their last BO3 win against them dates all the way back to the Summer Split of 2017. Fnatic earned this victory through sheer aggression — despite dropping the first game, they dominated the next two quite easily with a very strong Mihael "Mikyx" Mehle.
One of the major talking points this split is naturally G2’s form following the offseason roster changes. Without pointing at any player, it's clear that the new lineup is still trying to find its rhythm. It’s a tough act to follow after their 2024 Grand Slam season, during which G2 won every European title. Even during the Winter Split 2025, some warning signs had emerged, though they still reached the final. Will we see G2 grind their way back to the top again, or could this be the first time in their history that they suffer a middling finish in the LEC standings? They'll certainly need to pull together to avoid a repeat at the upcoming Roadshow in Evry at the Karmine Corp Arena in two weeks.
The strength of the crowd
Meanwhile, MKOI remains undefeated in front of their home fans. We saw a huge resurgence from Joseph "Jojopyun" Pyun today, who deservedly earned the series MVP thanks to his standout performances on Ahri and Aurelion Sol. This excellent weekend propels MKOI up the standings, putting them very close to securing their Playoffs spot. With just two matches left against SK Gaming and Rogue, they seem to have a favorable path based on the current standings.
That said, the LEC has been anything but predictable this season, as we saw with GX's upset win over G2 yesterday. However, the miracle run didn't repeat itself today. Still, it's been a relatively positive weekend for GIANTX. They, too, have two matches left to fight for a Playoffs spot, and victories against BDS and Heretics will be absolutely crucial over the next two weeks.
And so the Madrid Roadshow wraps up — but the LEC weekend continues this Monday in Berlin at the Riot Games Arena, with two major Playoffs race matchups on the schedule: Team Heretics vs. SK Gaming, and Vitality vs. BDS.
