MKOI and GX are down 0-2, Vitality stomped and KC started slowly but won against KOI
The two BO3 matches on this second day of the LEC Spring Split promised plenty of action. The first saw Yasin "Nisqy" Dinçer claim his first victory as a support for Team Vitality, securing a 2-0 win against GIANTX. Meanwhile, the reigning Winter Split champions, Karmine Corp, ultimately won 2-1 in a close series in their derby against Movistar KOI, who are off to a rough start this Spring Split with two consecutive losses.
The champion is in good shape, Vitality is scaling
Vitality made a strong entrance into the split, taking down one of their potential direct rivals for playoff qualification—and doing so in style. Kaan "Naak Nako" Okan looked very comfortable in his matchup, while Nisqy delivered solid performances in his first-ever games as a support. The trio of young players on the topside continues to impress, proving that Mac and Pad’s development plan is moving in the right direction. Mateusz "Czajek" Czajka closed out the series with a flawless 7/0/18 performance, earning a well-deserved MVP title. On the other hand, GIANTX struggled to get their momentum going, suffering two losses in their opening week. The players showed dynamism but lacked the sharpness, clutch factor, and initiative needed to turn things in their favor.
If one team was set for a tough start to the split on paper, it was Movistar KOI. After being outclassed by G2’s superior macro play yesterday, they fought valiantly today—but ultimately fell short against Karmine Corp. With no lane swaps to shift the balance, this was the first true head-to-head clash between the two organizations this year. Alex "Myrwn" Villarejo pulled out some of his signature pocket picks, including a top-lane Annie in Game 1, but Martin "Yike" Sundelin answered back with a dominant performance on Lillia, completely outclassing Javier "Elyoya" Prades' Skarner. The jungle GOAT showed once again that he can still be trusted with carry champions.
Game 2 was much closer, with Movistar KOI needing 20 minutes to make a game-winning play that finally gave them a gold lead. Their Taliyah/Nautilus combo proved crucial, shutting down Vladimiros "Vladi" Kourtidis's Akali and Kim "Canna" Chang-dong's Ambessa, preventing them from clutching key fights. Game 3, an even tighter battle, was decided in a nail-biting finish, with Karmine Corp securing the win thanks to a well-executed play around Baron's pit at the 40-minute mark to come back in the game. Despite still being winless after their first two matches, MKOI put on a strong showing today, though lingering individual mistakes cost them at key moments. Joseph Joon "Jojopyun" Pyun stepped up strongly today, and can only regret to have not carry the game through with his very fed Viktor in game 3. They’ll need to push even further to secure their first victory in their next match on April 7 against Team Heretics.
Tomorrow marks the third and final day of this LEC week. Two BO3 matches are on the schedule, starting with Team BDS against Rogue at 5 pm CET, followed by Fnatic’s second match against SK Gaming, who will be making its debut with a brand-new roster.
