TheShy, JieJie, Rookie, GALA and Meiko join Invictus Gaming
Invictus Gaming are not taking any half-measures for next year, and intend to be competitive in 2025. To this end, the team has announced the arrival of Chinese players Zhao "JieJie" Li-Jie, Chen "GALA" Wei, and Tian "Meiko" Ye. The first will be playing in the jungle of the 2018 world champion organization, after having completed all his classes at EDward Gaming. These classes were a great success, given that he too holds the title of World Champion, earned in 2021. Since that title, however, he has not enjoyed any further success, with no international tournaments in 2024, and no playoffs in Spring and Summer. He can only hope for better in the year ahead, and he will have the support of a player he knows well: Meiko.
The latter will reform the Worlds 2021-winning Jungle/Support duo with JieJie. The two players played together from 2019 to 2023, since last year Meiko moved to Top Esports, ending more than 9 consecutive years with EDG. During this new experience, Meiko had a rather convincing year, both individually with very good performances ranking him among the best LPL supports in 2024, but also through the results obtained. Indeed, TES finished 2nd during the Spring Split, before losing 3-0 to G2 at MSI. The team went on to finish 3rd during the Summer before being eliminated in the Worlds quarter-finals against future world champions T1. For the first time in his career, Meiko will once again change organization after “only” 1 year with Top Esports.
To accompany him on the botlane, Invictus Gaming have chosen to pick from the best once again, signing GALA. The two-time MSI champion (2021 and 2022) leaves LNG after an eventful year. After finishing 7th-8th in the Spring and 4th in the Summer, GALA and LNG finally secured their place at the Worlds by finishing 1st in the Regional Finals, beating WBG 3-0. While their ticket to the Worlds was valid, that of their midlaner Scout was on hold due to legal problems link with EDG. According to rumors, GALA was one of the players who lent money to his former midlaner so that he could take part in the Worlds 2024. In the end, LNG finished 5-8th, losing 3-1 to Weibo in search of revenge.
But the good news doesn't stop there for Invictus Gaming fans, as in addition to a very competitive botlane and jungler, the structure has brought back two club legends...
The Return of the Kings
IG are bringing back not one but two 2018 World Champions for 2025. So, as you may have understand, after a year's break, Kang "TheShy" Seung-lok is making his competitive return to the organization that made him shine. It's one of the most eagerly-awaited returns for League of Legends fans in China, and it comes with a top-level roster! TheShy's last appearance before his break was for Weibo, with whom he lost in the Worlds 2023 final to T1. So it's a return in the best possible condition for the toplaner, who will also be reunited with a midlaner he knows well: Song "Rookie" Eui-jin.
The former NIP midlaner may no longer be a rookie thanks to his experience and seniority on the competitive scene, but his level is still impressive. Although he has not been to Worlds since 2019, the Korean midlaner's performances are often very good. Last year was a good example of this: a season with mixed results, finishing 4th in Spring, and 5th-6th in Summer while again missing out on international tournaments. But individually, Rookie was once again at the top of his game in the LPL, notably with his Taliyah and Zeri mid, who had more than one team shaking in their boots.
The two Korean players and 2018 world champions will therefore be reunited with their beloved team alongside the aforementioned Chinese trio. The objective is clear for IG: to return to the top of the table and, why not, achieve success in 2025.
