Hang is still in pursuit of his first title
A few hours after announcing the arrival of Gao “Tian” Tian-Liang, Weibo Gaming have unveiled their second recruit for the upcoming LPL season. The Worlds 2023 finalists have signed Fu “Hang” Minghang, who previously played for LNG Esports. Hang is coming off an impressive season in the Chinese league and was included in the 3rd All-Pro Team for the summer segment—a decision supported by statistics. According to Sheep Stats, Hang ranks as the 3rd best support in the LPL with a score of 71/100.
Hang is about to enter his fifth season in the league. Despite being recognized as one of the top supports, he is still in pursuit of his first title. His best result so far remains a runner-up finish in the Summer Split 2023, also with LNG. While his domestic performance was stellar, Hang struggled during the first Worlds appearance of his career. LNG advanced past the Swiss Stage but were swept aside in the quarterfinals by the eventual champions, T1.
Break the glass ceiling
This year’s Worlds saw a more convincing performance from Hang—he even boasted the best stats in the bracket, according to Sheep Stats. He particularly excelled during the Swiss Stage, where LNG earned their qualification with a 4-0 track record. However, the result was ultimately the same for Hang and his team, as they were eliminated in the quarterfinals once again, this time by... Weibo Gaming. In that match, Hang was overshadowed by the player he will now replace at WBG, Liu “Crisp” Qingsong.
While Crisp’s track record is more decorated—he was a 2019 Worlds champion and part of Weibo’s Worlds 2023 runner-up squad—the two players have recently displayed a comparable level of skill. For Weibo Gaming, the goal is to break through the glass ceiling. Over the past two seasons, the team has been unpredictable. While not consistently expected at the top of the hierarchy, WBG have therefore managed to reach the Worlds 2023 final, but also the LPL final in Summer 2024. However, the team has yet to finish the job and is still searching—like Hang—for its first major title.
