Summer Split results will have a huge impact on LEC Season Finals seeding
The LEC Season Finals will soon be played after the conclusion of the LEC Summer Split, but there has been some confusion about how the seeding will be determined. Recent information from a tweet by MAD Lions KOI's CEO, Adam "Grazen" Adamou, provides clarity. Riot Games seem to have confirmed to him the following set of rules and order of priority between best teams of the Summer Split and best teams in terms of Championship Points (CP):
- 1st in Summer
- 1st in CP
- 2nd in Summer
- 2nd in CP
- 3rd in Summer
- 3rd in CP
- 4th in CP
- 5th in CP
- 6th in CP
A successful team in the Summer Split will have all of its chances to qualify directly as Riot Games rewards those who have stepped up throughout the year.
Many scenarios are still possible
Seeding is quite important as the LEC Season Finals allow the top 4 teams to be placed in the upper bracket, enabling any teams to access to Worlds by only winning one best of 5. So far, we know Fnatic, G2 Esports and Team BDS are guaranteed to be in this upper bracket, and that SK will be in the lower bracket.
The result of Karmine Corp's match this Friday against BDS will determine who is the last team to qualify for the SF between KC and GiantX, but also the last team to qualify for upper bracket of these Season Finals. If Karmine Corp beat BDS, they qualify for SF instead of GX and take the fourth slot in the upper bracket. In this scenario MDK would finish fifth and would be reversed in the lower bracket.
If BDS beat KC, GiantX keep their spot and qualify for Season Finals at 6th position, in the lower bracket. Then MDK would be fourth and keep their place in the upper bracket. We will have to wait for it to end this next sunday to get the final order.
