This weekend sees the final round of Europe's biggest League of Legends competition, where three teams will be hoping to lift the coveted LEC cup. MAD Lions KOI, Fnatic and G2 Esports are the last three teams standing for the final phase of the LEC finals starting with the loser bracket final with a rematch between MAD Lions KOI and G2.

We could already see this clash during the first week of the competition where one of the biggest surprises of the LEC Finals happened. G2 Esports entered playoffs as the first seed of Europe, after winning the Summer final 3-0 against Fnatic. Against a MAD Lions KOI that had not had the best performances during the Summer, everyone considered G2 as the big favorite. But MDK won 3-2 in a heart-stopping series where we could see the best MAD Lions KOI and especially the best Alex "Myrwn" Villarejo, who was a big headache for Rasmus “Caps” Winther and company, had to offer.

Myrwn, the clutch factor?

G2 Esports would start their run through the lower bracket where they would comfortably win 3-0 against GiantX and 3-2 in a reverse sweep against Team BDS. On the other hand MAD Lions KOI would play for a place in the LEC final against Fnatic in one of the best series of the year, losing the fifth map.

After losing the series against MAD Lions KOI, the G2 players praised the MDKs players and whenever these two teams played sparks flew in the Rift. At the end of the series, with Myrwn playing 5 different champions including Smolder, Zeri, Nidalee, Lulu and Corki, Sergen “BrokenBlade” Celik himself started practicing these champions in SoloQ.

MDK, the new favorite?

MDK is an unconventional team and preparing against them is always difficult. Seeming to have laid a new foundation on the flexibility of champions, no doubt BrokenBlade vs Myrwn will once again be the standout matchup. If you want to have more in-depth stats about the match-up and how MDK is one of the strongest teams in the early game, here is the link to our section.

We saw in the final of the Winter Split, where G2 beat MAD Lions KOI by 3-1, that Coach Tomás "Melzhet" Campelos players have been one of the teams that have faced the European champion the most. The team from Madrid seems to have found the way to close games against G2 Esports. MDK already knows what it's like to beat G2 in a BO5 and one could assume they would enter as favorites in this series.
