Riot Games inducted Faker as the first legend to officially enter the game's Hall of Fame in 2024
The Hall of Legends (HoL) is a prestigious annual event in League of Legends Esports that honors the most iconic players in the game’s history since 2024. These legends have achieved remarkable success on the Rift and left an indelible mark on the global esports community. More than just a recognition event, it’s a celebration of those who have shaped the game's competitive landscape throughout the years and have become synonymous with excellence in the game.
Who chooses the player?
To be considered for induction into the HoL, players must have competed at the highest level, specifically in Tier 1 leagues (LCS, LLA, CBLOL, LEC, LPL, LCK, PCS, VCS, LJL) for at least five years. The choices include both active and retired players, ensuring that current players have an opportunity to be honored and rewarded for their contributions to the game and the sport.

A jury, representing regional esports leagues and communities, votes from a list of candidates selected based on criteria such as regional and international titles, contributions to the sport and competitive meta, awards, and more. Unsurprisingly, Riot Games inducted Lee "Faker" Sang-hyeok as the first legend to officially enter the game's Hall of Fame. Widely regarded as one of the greatest esports players in history, across all games, Faker has won four World Championships (2013, 2015, 2016, 2023), two Mid-Season Invitationals (2016, 2017), and ten LCK titles.
How are they celebrated?
For its first introduction, the Hall of Legends has created several types of content both inside and outside the game. A series of ten videos dedicated to Faker himself have been released one by one on the LCK YouTube channel in which his best plays, his history throughout the years as well as specific messages from his former teammates and rivals have been recorded. It is a high-quality content documenting how unique the player's career is for the whole pro circuit.
The in-game event features a unique four-week battle pass with exclusive content:
- Risen Legend LeBlanc Skin
- SKT T1 Zed, Ryze and Syndra Skins
- 125 Mythic Essence
- 14 Faker-ific Icons & Emotes
- “Broccoli Baron” Title
- Hide on Bush Ward
- Unkillable Demon King Banner
- 6 Orbs
In real life, there has been a pop-up store exhibition named "Temple of Faker" that was set up in Seoul from May 29 to June 16 at HiKR Ground. Spread over four floors, the exhibition was essentially a museum in honor of Faker. There were mini-events on every floor. Visitors could explore exhibits and areas dedicated to Faker, including career iconic memories, statues, and photo spots. They could also participate in a stamp relay to collect throughout the exhibition to receive merchandise, discover Faker's book recommendations, and even visit a dedicated UNICEF area as he is very involved in raising awareness about children's education.
It is yet to be seen how this will evolve with the next players to be inducted. All eyes and whispers are focused on Jian "Uzi" Zihao, who is poised to become the first Chinese player inducted into the Hall of Legends.
