This is the first time a League of Legends game will materialize to the real world
Riot Games China announced on Monday the release of a physical trade-card game in 2025. Titled Rune Battlegrounds, the game might share some similarities with the renowned Magic: The Gathering. This is the first time League of Legends is expanding with a physical version of a game. After Riot Games abruptly ceased support for Legends of Runeterra due to layoff announcements earlier this year, the release of this physical game marks the company's return to the card game genre.
The trailer showcases popular champions like Miss Fortune, Ahri, Lee Sin, Kai'Sa and Darius. Riot's communication employee Joe Hixson explained on his X account that the launch is currently only planned for China in 2025, as it has been entirely developed by Riot's China team. Therefore, no global release has been planned yet. A successful deployment in China could likely pave the way for a launch in other regions. However, the game isn't expected to arrive in other regions anytime soon.
