There will be some new changes for the 2024 MSI draw show
The 2024 Mid-Season Invitational (MSI 2024) is the year's first international League of Legends Esports event. It is between the first and second splits of all regions, except for EMEA, which has a winter and spring split before MSI. Each major region sends two teams to MSI: the region's spring split winners and the runners-up. Minor regions will compete for spots in the bracket stage through the play-ins, with each minor region team able to send one team to compete.
The MSI 2024 play-in draws will be during the LPL Spring Finals on April 20th. Riot has updated the MSI Draw format, hopefully leading to more exciting matchups.
Play-ins Draw
There will be a new tier system in the play-ins:
- Tier 1: LPL2, LCK2
- Tier 2: LEC2, LCS2
- Tier 3: PCS1, VCS1
- Tier 4: LLA1, CBLOL1
They will all be split into two brackets, each with one team from each tier. This setup ensures that there will be no "Group of Death" in some way, as each bracket will include one team from tiers 1, 2, 3, and 4.
Bracket Stage Draw
The Bracket Stage draw will be held on May 5th. For the bracket stage, the teams will also be separated into four tiers:
- Tier 1: LPL1, LCK1
- Tier 2: LEC1, LCS1
- Tier 3: Play-In 2-0s (2 teams)
- Tier 4: Play-In 2-1s (2 teams)
It will be similar to the new Play-In draws, as teams from the same tier can only face each other later in the tournament. Additionally, this year, each side of the bracket will only be allowed to have one team per region. This way, we cannot have, for example, LEC1 vs LEC2 on the same side of the bracket.
Depending on the Play-In results, there are scenarios where only one draw result is possible. If this happens, there will be no draw show, and the Bracket Stage will be announced on May 5th after the Play-In stage concludes.
