The former minimum age was of 17
The League Of Legends European Championship (LEC) will raise the minimum age requirement for professional players to 18 in 2024, as disclosed by sources to Sheep Esports.
This significant decision was reached following a summit with representatives from all LEC teams in Montpellier last September. The primary motivation behind this change is to attract new sponsors to bolster the league's economic potential. However, it's noteworthy that betting sponsors will not be considered.
One of the rising stars, Karmine Corp's Botlaner Caliste "Caliste" Henry-Hennebert, who recently emerged victorious in the EMEA Masters Summer Split, could be affected by this adjustment.
Throughout the LEC's history, numerous players have commenced their careers at a young age. Midlaners Luka "Perkz" Perković and Rasmus "Caps" Borregaard Winther serve as prime examples, among many others. These players made their LEC debuts before reaching the age of 18.
