The team is set to make sweeping changes to its staff.
GIANTX Coach Jonas "Hidon" Vraa is set to step down from his current position, while Christophe "Kaas" van Oudheusden, the team's current strategic coach, is set to take over the role of head coach in the LoL EMEA Championship (LEC), sources tell Sheep Esports. To complement the move, the team is also set to officially welcome Kim "Trick" Gang-yun as assistant coach. The former jungler was, according to sources, already helping the team in the winter split, albeit in an unofficial manner.
Re-Structuration ahead of the Spring Split
Coming in as underdogs this year, GIANTX has had a mitigated start to its year. With a cumulated score of 4 wins and 5 losses in the group stage, the team was narrowly able to qualify itself for the winter playoffs, ending in 8th place. There, the team would fail adapt to the competition and would eventually lose all four of its playoffs games, ending in last position.
Unhappy with the team's performances, the organization has now elected to make changes ahead of the Spring Split. Now, the organization sets to redeem its recent "shameful split", as was described by the team's top laner Andrei "Odoamne" Pascu.
With this move, the team's current strategic on-stage coach, Christophe "Kaas" van Oudheusden, is set to take over the role of head coach, hoping to replicate past successes. Currently, it is unclear what role Jonas "Hidon" Vraa will take on next within the organization, though sources indicate that he is set to remain with GIANTX. Kaas and Hidon had been working together since March 2023, when the both of them joined Excel.
To help the existing coaching staff, the team is also set to officially welcome former professional jungler Kim "Trick" Gang-yun to its staff. Per sources, the Korean player had already been helping the team behind the scenes, despite not fielding an official position.
