Jojopyun is the first North American import in LEC history
Apart from their branding, Movistar KOI haven't made many changes during the offseason. The now-former Madrid Lions have retained four members from last season's roster for the upcoming LEC season. Firstly, the topside features toplaner Alex “Myrwn” Villarejo, known for his unconventional picks, alongside the jungler and team cornerstone Javier “Elyoya” Prades. The botlane also remains unchanged with David “Supa” García and Álvaro Fernández “Alvaro” del Amo, who will be entering their third season together as a duo, after dominating the LVP in 2023 with Movistar before joining LEC.
Last year, this quartet achieved respectable results in their first season in the League of Legends EMEA elite. MAD Lions KOI exceeded expectations by reaching the Winter Split finals but struggled in subsequent splits, finishing 7th in Spring and 6th in Summer. Their qualification for the Season Finals was largely due to the points earned from their Winter Split run. However, at Worlds, they faltered after making it out of the play-in stage, becoming the first team eliminated from the Swiss Stage with a disappointing 0-3 record.
Jojo, the Offseason Masterstroke
In 2024, Myrwn, Supa, and Alvaro entered the LEC as rookies. Their performances, combined with their relationship with Head Coach Tomás “Melzhet” Campelos—formerly the botlane's coach at MRS in 2023—allowed them to retain their spots for the next season. They will be joined by Canadian midlane prodigy Joseph Joon “Jojopyun” Pyun, the first North American import in LEC history. Jojopyun has been one of the most sought-after players in the Western scene this offseason and is a marquee signing for KOI. The talented midlaner, a former Fortnite player, won the LCS in his very first split, during Spring 2022 with Evil Geniuses.
Jojopyun will replace Bartłomiej “Fresskowy” Przewoźnik in the midlane. While the Polish player was far from disappointing, he failed to establish himself as a standout midlaner. In this context, Jojopyun’s arrival appears to be a significant upgrade for the KOI roster. His presence has already boosted the team’s position in preseason tier lists, and the 20-year-old is expected to be one of the league’s key attractions from the Winter Split onwards.
KOI has also made changes to its coaching staff, with Bjørn-Vegar “Hansen” Hansen joining as Assistant Coach. He replaces Quentin “Zeph” Viguié, who was allowed to explore his options before ultimately extending his stay with the organization as a strategic coach.
