Either Fnatic or G2 will get a 0-2 week
Spain can stand proud. The LEC Spring Split's regular season continued at the Pabellón Multiusos Madrid Arena, and what a show it was. GIANTX toppled G2 Esports in a hard-fought three-game series, while MKOI stunned Fnatic, also in three games, in front of 12,000 roaring fans and a red-hot arena.
This has major implications for the standings. Karmine Corp is now sitting comfortably alone at the top. G2 drops to 3-2, while Fnatic falls to 4-2. But the race for the six Playoffs spots remains wide open. GIANTX’s victory against G2 reignites their season, as they now share a 2-win record with Vitality, SK Gaming, and Rogue. MKOI, with a 3-3 record, continues to impress with convincing wins.
The LEC has been shaken up
The big question now is: are we witnessing the most inconsistent G2 roster since the start of the LEC era? The team's loss to GIANTX was brutal. They were soundly defeated in Game 1, barely scraped by in Game 2, and were completely outclassed again in Game 3. This is even more surprising, given that GIANTX had been struggling throughout the split, while G2 looked strong early on. Now, G2 finds themselves on a two-game losing streak and urgently needing a rebound.
Meanwhile, MKOI didn’t just win — they put on a show. Their series against Fnatic went down to the wire. Game 3 lasted over 53 minutes, with Fnatic unable to close it out, despite holding a sizable economic lead nearly the entire time. The Spanish side fought like lions, capitalizing on and punishing mistakes while pulling off some crazy fights. They clutched the victory right from the brink of defeat, with Fnatic literally one auto-attack away from destroying their Nexus. It was a breathtaking finish to Day 1 of Week 5 — a packed arena on its feet, reminiscent of the electric atmosphere of past Worlds in Europe, and a perfect kickoff for the first-ever LEC Roadtrip.
Either Fnatic or G2 will suffer an 0-2 week, as the two old kings of Europe face off tomorrow in the league’s biggest "El Clásico," with a crowd that will expect just as much action, if not more, than today. Meanwhile, today's two winners, GIANTX and MKOI, will clash in a full-blown Spanish derby that’s sure to keep the arena fired up. One thing is already clear: despite some long technical pauses, this Madrid Roadshow is already a massive success thanks to its wild storylines and wild gameplay.
