G2 and KC face off next Monday for a spot in the grand final
On a day full of rivalries between the four supposed top teams of the LEC, G2 Esports once again defeats Fnatic, while Movistar KOI gets obliterated by Karmine Corp, both in 2-0 sweeps. G2 and KC are now guaranteed a top 3 finish in the league and will face off on Monday, February 24, at 6 PM in a BO5 to determine who advances to the grand final of the split. MKOI and Fnatic drop to the lower bracket and will have to wait for their opponents.
Two derbies going 2-0
Players may change, but the results remain the same as G2 just secured their 34th victory against Fnatic today. The Black and Orange suffers yet another crushing defeat, despite an almost perfect start to their Winter Split. G2 Esports hands them a brutal 2-0 loss, ending their 10-game winning streak. Mihael "Mikyx" Mehle put on a stellar performance, but it was not enough to turn the tide in favor of his teammates in a closely contested first game, which could have gone either way given the high level of play. Game 2, however, was far more one-sided, with Fnatic’s draft leaving them little room to maneuver. Overall, the Samurais came into this BO much better prepared, while Fnatic still needs to adapt further to the Fearless draft format. However, with players of this caliber, there’s no doubt they can bounce back in the lower bracket.
The second BO was much more one-sided. The Blue Wall made a statement by winning the second BO3 in their history against MKOI, with the same score as in the Summer of 2024: 2-0. Raphaël "Targamas" Crabbé left nothing to chance, dying only once across both games, unlike MKOI’s Canadian midlaner, Joseph "Jojopyun" Pyun, who had a completely forgettable performance—still failing to secure a single kill against Karmine in three games played. Since the start of this season, KOI have yet to take a single game off Karmine, who seem to be dominating the debate in this new European rivalry.
Karmine and G2 will now face off in the upper bracket final next weekend in a BO5, still using fearless draft. Meanwhile, Fnatic and MKOI must wait for the results of BDS vs. VIT and Heretics vs. GIANTX to find out who they will face in a BO3 in the lower bracket.
