G2 is tied with Fnatic and holds a narrow edge over Karmine Corp with just one extra win in scrims
The LEC Winter Split concluded last Sunday with Karmine Corp's crushing victory over G2 Esports. As is tradition, Romain Bigeard has once again shared G2's scrim results, offering insight into their performance behind the scenes. This winter split, G2 once more dominated even in scrims with an impressive 69% win rate, winning 187 games and losing 84 across all scrims. In terms of series, they secured 50 victories, tied ten times, and lost only 16.
Rivals even during practice
Of course, the numbers shared by Romain do not reveal the content of these training sessions, nor what was practiced or tested. Some results may therefore be skewed, and we should take them with a grain of salt, even though they provide a good indication of the balance of power between teams that frequently scrim together. This is especially true for their rivals, Fnatic, Karmine Corp, and Movistar KOI.
Just two days before the LEC Winter Finals, G2 scrimmed Karmine Corp and won 4-1, showing strong form heading into the deciding match. Over the split, they scrimmed KC ten times, with an overall score of 23-22 in G2's favor. Their matchups against Fnatic were evenly contested, playing 15 series and splitting the games at 30 each. Against KOI, however, G2 showed significant dominance, winning 31 games and losing only eleven across nine series.
Still one of the best in Europe
Here are a few facts we learned from Romain Bigeard's scrim reports:
- G2 committed to playing fearless drafts for an entire month in February, focusing on experimental and high-variance playstyles as the Playoffs began.
- They scrimmed various ERL teams, including Karmine Corp Blue, Gentle Mates, Vitality Bee, Solary, and Los Heretics.
- G2 never lost a single scrim to SK Gaming or Rogue, although they only played two scrims against the latter.
- They only dropped a single game throughout the entire split against Team Vitality.
Beyond the data, Romain explains in his own words that, while the loss was tough, he sees Karmine Corp’s outstanding performance as a sign of the league’s renewal and an opportunity for G2 to grow alongside them. The team will take a short break before resuming intense training in preparation for the Spring Split, which will be played entirely in a best-of-three and best-of-five format. For now, there are no plans to extend the fearless draft approach to the rest of the year’s splits, though Romain makes it clear that it remains his preferred way to play the game.
