"I've always good teammates that helped me improve and I think that's the reason why I went to LEC really fast."
With the LEC 2024 Summer Split already underway, Zoelys, the youngest player from Rogue (1-2), shares his thoughts in an exclusive interview following their third match, a tough loss against Karmine Corp. Zoelys reflects on the game, his growth, and the team's preparations for the upcoming challenges.
I felt like the start of the game against KC, you had a bit of control with your team. What do you think happened and why do you think you lost?
Théo "Zoelys" Le Scornec: "During this game, we had a lot of control through mid. [Larssen] kinda won his lane really hard, so we played around him, and he was like, we have vision around, we were playing tower and stuff, pretty ahead.
I don't know, I don't have the golds, but we were like 2 drakes ahead, gold ahead, herald and grubs.
But I feel like we fucked up a bit like our timing when they get positioned a bit for free and after we give like first drake and I feel like they were scaling maybe a bit better than us and they have like a bit of side pressure with the Camille so it was a bit hard after and we didn't really have tools, in my opinion, to like really engage on them so once we were like end up behind, it was like… way harder to play."
Your team performed very well during the final week of the last split. Do you believe that your team is currently playing at that same level? If not, what do you think is needed to reach that performance again?
Zoelys: "I think we are playing definitely better and better throughout the year. But I feel like the last week of the last split, we were pretty good, few individual mistakes that made the game lost and we didn't make playoffs.
But this split, I mean, there is a way higher chance we are doing good. We have been working for a really long time now. So yeah, we are working a lot, and we hope to make playoffs this time."
I heard some rumors that you guys have been practicing well and a lot this offseason. Is that true?
Zoelys: "I feel like we are practicing a lot, that's for sure true. The two first weeks when we were back, we were winning a lot. And recently we didn't win a lot, but it's like...
I don't judge if the practice is good or not, win or lose, it's just like what you try, what you play, if you're improving or... If you play the same comp and win perma, it doesn't matter if it's bad on stage, you know what I mean?
So yeah, I think we are not for sure the best team who are winning everything, but we are working really well."
So, are you confident for the coming weeks?
Zoelys: "Yeah, I was really confident coming into this week and especially tonight. I was kind of confident we would win, but... Actually, I'm playing better.
I'm working hard with Mark to improve a lot together. And maybe tonight, he didn't really show, but we know we have still a bit of time, it's not like the end of the world, like we lost one game and it happened.
We just keep working and I have a good expectation for this team."
Do you feel like as a rookie you have some stress to perform in the LEC?
Zoelys: "I don't feel any stress in-game. I feel like really well. I had like a lot more stress last year in LFL, but this year I don't feel stress on stage.
Yeah, I'm feeling good on stage."
You have been climbing very fast in your professional career. Last year, you played your first season in the LFL, and now you are in your first year in the LEC. Do you feel like you are improving a lot and why is that?
Zoelys: "Yeah, I've been lucky. Two years ago, I was in Div2 and I had a good teammate in Div2 that helped me a lot to grind in LFL. In LFL, I had good teammates who helped me grind in LEC.
And I feel like this year I have good teammates as well with a lot of experience and I know they helped me improve a lot. So, I think I've been really lucky in my previous team. I've always had good teammates that helped me improve and I think that's the reason why I went to LEC really fast."
In your team right now you have a lot of veterans such as Larssen, are you learning a lot from them too?
Zoelys: "Yeah, like they're really smart about the game I feel like what you learn in the ERLs doesn't hold true once you reach the LEC.
I kinda need to learn a new game. And yeah, for sure the four others in my team played LEC for like 3 years. So yeah, I'm learning a lot from them, and they helped me a lot as well."
Looking back at your whole first year in LEC, what do you think of your performance and are you happy with it?
Zoelys: "Obviously, I'm really not happy, the goal was to make more and to do good individually. I feel like after my summer in LDLC, I lost a lot of confidence in myself, and I feel like my strength before was… I was a really good individually, I think, in my opinion… and I lost a bit of that.
But right now, I try to compensate by learning a lot about the game and I feel like this week I had more confidence already.
I tried a lot in the off-season to progress on that and I'm a bit sad we didn't win tonight, but I'm sure we're gonna do better next week."
