"We will not be any less than the LEC and LCS"
In 2023, GAM Esports extended their adventure in the Swiss Stage of the League of Legends Worlds by knocking out Team Liquid in the third round. This year, however, the Marines failed to replicate the same scenario: seed 1 of the LCS took its revenge last Saturday in the group with a 1-2 record, eliminating the Vietnamese team from the 2024 Worlds. Team captain Đỗ “Levi” Duy Khánh talked to Sheep Esports about his team's elimination. The jungler also discussed the next steps in his career, as well as his activities as a content creator and streamer.
Do you feel you've accomplished what you wanted since returning to Berlin after five years?
Đỗ "Levi" Duy Khánh: "We’ve had a really tough start at the beginning of 2024. So I think this is a result that I can accept.
Are you happy with your team's overall performance, or do you have regrets after this loss?
Levi: I think my team has done very well, but as for my part, I could have done a little bit better. So after the game, I felt a little bit regretful.
What do you think was missing for your team to beat Team Liquid again this year and continue the streak from last year?
Levi: I was not able to help the team as well, and I was not able to keep my calm in a lot of decisive moments. Personally, I made a lot of mistakes too.
Next year marks your 10th year in your career, and with the APAC region merging, can we expect Captain Levi to keep fighting? Will you be able to deliver the same performances in the new league?
Levi: The future is something we cannot foresee, but I'm confident that as long as I keep playing and we stay united, we can achieve victory even in the APAC League.
Do you think Vietnam can become a serious contender and consistently compete with the LEC and LCS in the future?
Levi: Vietnam will participate in the LCP next year and will improve from that. We, as a region, will not be any less than the LEC and LCS.
Back in 2017, you were the team's promising rookie. How has it been for you to take on a veteran role and lead the team as Captain Levi alongside players like Emo?
Levi: When I first joined GAM again in 2019, I became the captain, which was logical as I was the player with the most experience at the time. It was a learning process since it was my first time taking that role. Throughout the years, I have gained a lot of experience in leading the team in a veteran role, and right now, I'm very confident in my ability to lead and support my teammates.
Despite being eliminated, can you find any positives from your performance this year, especially after a rough start in 2024?
Levi: Honestly, given everything that happened to us this year, I have to say this result is a great success. In the coming years, I believe that GAM will continue to improve as a team and as a representative of the LCP region and Vietnam. We believe that GAM will become a formidable contender in the new LCP league.
How did you process everything that happened in the first half of the year? Hứa "EasyLove" Thành An mentioned it was tough for him, and he almost considered giving up. How was it for you?
Levi: I always tell myself that I'm the role model my teammates look up to. If I'm not trying my best, then how can they? So in every match, I've always been trying my best.
How do you manage being a pro player while also being a content creator and streamer? How do you balance all these different aspects of your career?
Levi: Personally, I am a pro gamer, so I spend most of my efforts playing professionally. Live streaming is more like a hobby for me, and I try my best to use my extra time to chat and have fun with my viewers.
Do you have a message for your fans?
Levi: First of all, I would like to thank everyone for watching our journey. I believe this marks the beginning of something new, and I’m excited for what the future holds."
