"I just had an ice cream and meat next to each other, so I was like, yeah, let's try it."
Though they are underdogs, Humanoid and Fnatic are readying up to face Gen.G in the first round of the MSI 2024 Bracket Stage. Following a tumultuous play-in run, the mid-laner now discusses his team's chances in the next phase of the tournament and delves into his time in China in this exclusive interview.
| How do you feel facing off against Chovy?
Humanoid: "I've never played against him, so I'm definitely really excited to finally play against Chovy. He's been probably one of the best mid-laners in the world for quite some time now. It'll be a great opportunity for me to test myself."
| Do you think that Gen.G can be beaten?
Humanoid: "We are definitely the underdogs heading into this match. Still, I think that we are going to come in with full confidence in ourselves, just like we did against Top Esports. We will not be scared of being aggressive and, time will tell if we can pull it off."
| Are you satisfied with your performances so far? You generally tend to peak internationally.
Humanoid: "I'm pretty happy with myself so far. I've been playing pretty well. I always feel so excited to play internationally and compete against the best teams in the world."
| Having won a game against Top Esports, would you say that you could take more wins against other Eastern teams? Is the hyper-aggressive playstyle you showcased the key to winning?
Humanoid: "We are confident that we can play against anyone. I think that, in the series against Top Esports, all of our games were really close. Even if we started a lot of games in bad early-game positions at level one, we've had a pretty good showing. We were really close to winning the match. We all know that we are good and have what it takes to play against any other teams at this tournament."
| Is there hope for the West at MSI 2024?
Humanoid: "Eastern teams are most definitely favored to win the tournament, but I don't think the chances of Western teams are null. In the case of G2 and ourselves, I'd say we are pretty good and we can have a good showing at MSI 2024."
| This is your first MSI since 2021 with MAD Lions. Do you feel anything special about attending this tournament?
Humanoid: "Every international event is special to me; it's the most fun I have playing this game. Being able to travel around the world to compete really makes it even better."
Last time was during COVID, so we just played in Iceland. Even though that event was nice, it didn't feel that special. This time, being in China truly feels like an event. I'm happy that I can be here."
| You haven't been to China since 2020. How has your trip been so far?
Humanoid: "It's been amazing. I think the food here is a million times better than in Europe. So, I'm enjoying every day here."
| We heard about your PCs being capped at 80 FPS and you were one of the last teams to arrive in China. How have the overall training conditions been so far? Are you satisfied with how the team is doing?
Humanoid: "Yeah, I mean... The PC issue tends to happen pretty often at international tournaments. I genuinely don't understand how it's possible that these kinds of problems keep happening every time."
"Thankfully, this got fixed, somehow. The first few days, I just had omega-low FPS and the game felt quite unplayable. I'm really glad that the issue got fixed this time, which doesn't always happen. We've had to play entire tournaments in such conditions before so hey, there's some improvements!"
"Overall, I think our scrims have been pretty good. Everyone is very excited to play and I can sense that our players have the motivation to cause some damage. I'm really happy right now."
| Would you say that the Play-In stage has allowed you to alleviate the lack of training and help you step up to the level of other teams?
Humanoid: "For sure. As always, playing more games on stage is good for teams and definitely cannot hurt us. I feel like the meta hasn't changed much since the LEC Playoffs though. In my eyes, adapting for MSI hasn't been that hard due to this. All the champions we used to play are generally the same. Still though, playing more games helped us get ready for the bracket stage."
| How is the team atmosphere right now?
Humanoid: "The team atmosphere is good; we're all having so much fun.
"When we lost to Top Esports, everyone was still with their heads up high, and we knew that we would bounce back. Our team is extremely motivated and everyone is having a great time."
| Do you have any tricks up your sleeve to upset the Eastern teams?
Humanoid: "We don't really need any tricks or special picks. I think that we can just play standard compositions and still surprise our opponents through our gameplay. We won't need anything weird."
| Finally, thoughts on Meat & Ice Cream?
Humanoid: "I wouldn't actually recommend it. It was not that great. I just had an ice cream and meat next to each other, so I was like, yeah, let's try it. But yeah, it was fun, but I wouldn't do it again."
