Being with nuc is like living the dream; he is the GOAT.
Playing on a knife's edge, Team BDS narrowly secured at minimum a top 4 finish in the LEC 2024 Summer Playoffs by defeating GIANTX with a 2-1 score this week. Following this victory, Sheo (Théo Borile) took the time to sit down with Sheep Esports and discuss the recent issues that have been plaguing his team, his expectations for the future, and the current meta.
Team BDS managed to take down GIANTX in a close 2-1 score. The team looked rather shaky today, how do you feel after this match?
Théo "Sheo" Borile: We are happy with the win, but the performance we showed is not what we want to display, so it's a bit disappointing. However, the most important thing is that we won, so we'll take it.
What do you think is the reason behind this performance?
Sheo: Obviously, we knew that if we lost, we would be out of the summer playoffs, so maybe we had some pressure on us, even though we all thought we were a better team than GIANTX. When we lost the second game, maybe some players got tilted and became emotional, I'm not sure.
You've received some criticism lately from some fans. How do you feel about your individual performance in the last few matches?
Sheo: I would say I'm doing what I can with the tools I have. I can't leak what's going on behind the scenes, but we're trying things. I might not be playing perfectly, but I'm trying my best to help and play around my teammates at least.
What do you think your team needs to improve to compete with top teams like G2 later in the playoffs or in the season finals?
Sheo: Maybe play better teamfights. I think we can improve our teamfights, and knowing how we want to play them can help us a lot. Probably the comms as well; we need to learn to deal with stress better.
How do you feel about playing in the current ADC meta, especially as a jungler?
Sheo: Since there are a lot of ADCs in mid, theoretically you can play a lot of AP junglers with them. So, I would say if you can play them, it's good for you. And then if there is like triple ADC—top, mid, bot—you need to get some frontline somewhere. So, I think the meta is fun, I would say. Even if there are ADCs everywhere, it's still fun to play and to watch, I assume.
How do you feel about Europe's read on the current meta? Do you think your team's read differs from the other teams? Do you think that BDS has figured out the most effective ways to play?
Sheo: I mean, I think all the teams have the same read, but not all teams can play AP junglers correctly. So, I would say it depends more on the team you are playing and what your teammates can do when you are on the AP junglers, because obviously if you play Sejuani or Zyra, you're not doing the same thing. So, I would say it depends on the teams because we saw that G2, Fnatic, and us can play this. Even GIANTX today, they played Nidalee and they won.
With your win today, you advance to the next round of the lower bracket. Who do you expect to face next between SK and Karmine Corp, and are you confident in your ability to step up and defeat them?
Sheo: I would say SK should win, but I think KC has a good shot and can still surprise and win the series. Who we end up facing doesn't really matter though. We need to win the best-of-fives, play against G2, and beat them as well if we want to achieve our goal and win the split. So, we need to improve and step up on game day.
How do you feel about your team's chances in upcoming best-of-fives, given that BDS has lost every single one of them this year? Do you think you'll be able to adapt and fix the issues from previous matches?
Sheo: I mean, I think best-of-fives depend a lot on emotions and how you manage to control them. So, it will be on us if it goes smoothly or not, or if we start 0-2, whether we give up. I think it will be a lot on the mental aspect because in-game we should be doing fine if we're not trolling. So, I think the most important part will be the mental aspect.
How do you feel about the current LEC format, and do you have any criticisms of it?
Sheo: I don't really care about the format; it's not really my job. If it's best-of-one or best-of-three, I would just play and do the same. For sure, best-of-one, if you end up top 9 or 10, it sucks because you're eliminated really fast and cannot show what you want. But we haven't experienced that yet; we always make it to best-of-three and best-of-five. If we had best-of-three, LEC would be better, but it would also change a lot of things, I assume. So, I don't know.
How has the training and atmosphere been for the team recently, and do you think it will help you improve in the coming weeks?
Sheo: This split, we have been doing way better in scrims, and we are taking them more seriously as well. This split has seen some of our best scrim results yet, and we are still doing well in them now. I think that, on stage, we're just getting too emotional and stressed, which is why we are playing poorly. But I think in scrims, we will keep trying and do our best.
The atmosphere in BDS always seem very lighthearted and fun from the outside. How does it feel working with the likes of nuc and Chapeau Pointu every day?
Sheo: Yeah, I mean, Chapeau Pointu is making us do Tik Toks every day, so we have to do them, or he's not happy. It’s always pretty fun to do that. And about nuc, being with him is like living the dream; he is the GOAT.
Are there any specific content pieces that you've really enjoyed making?
Sheo: One video we made recently was really good, but it hasn’t come out yet, so we need to wait. Otherwise, the Gumayusi dance was fun to make.
