Aurora will not be playable in any region until further notice.
In an urgent announcement today, Maximilian Peter Schmidt, Director of League of Legends Esports in the EMEA region, officially confirmed that Aurora will be disabled in all competitive regions until further notice. This decision follows a major issue that prevents tournament officials from properly using Chronobreak technology whenever Aurora is present in a match. Chronobreak is a tool used by leagues to rewind the game’s state in the event of a major game-breaking issue, offering a far better alternative to a full game remake.
Pros React to the News
While decisions like this are not unheard of, many LEC pros have taken to Twitter to voice their discontent with the sudden change. "Thoughts go out to the teams that spammed Aurora, only for her to be disabled in competitive play until further notice," commented Adam "Adam" Maanane, the toplaner for Team BDS. In an indirect response, SK Gaming's midlaner, Yasin "Nisqy" Dinçer, tweeted: "LOL, I know teams that are disgusted by Aurora's disable, isn't that right, my friend Nuc (Ilias Bizriken)?"
Although this change will affect all regions, it appears the LEC—where the decision originated—will be among the most impacted, as it is currently in the final phase of its competitions. Noticed via op.gg, Rasmus "Caps" Borregaard Winther, midlaner for G2 Esports, has also been spamming Aurora in solo queue, having played a total of 28 games on his main account over the last two weeks.
The World Championship
At this time, it is impossible to determine the full extent of the issue or how long the disable will last. However, unless Riot Games encounters major setbacks, Aurora is not expected to remain disabled for the World Championship. According to official guidelines, new champions must be enabled during the playoffs phase or earlier to be allowed at Worlds. Given that Aurora was playable in recent weeks in all major competitions, she should still technically qualify as a playable pick for the upcoming tournament.
If the issue persists, Riot Games may decide on a longer disable that could extend into the World Championship. However, this remains unlikely, as Worlds doesn’t start until September 25th, providing ample time to resolve the ongoing issue.
