Several clues, along with statements from Arcane's co-creator, suggest that Jinx may actually be alive
As the final episode of Arcane aired on November 23, fans eagerly took to social media to share their thoughts and emotions. Indeed, the last three episodes of Season 2 also marked the series's conclusion, as co-creator Christian Linke announced in June. In the ninth episode’s dramatic finale, one of the show’s most iconic characters, Jinx, sacrifices herself to save her sister, Vi. Beloved by audiences, Jinx’s character arc across both seasons is considered one of the show’s finest. However, while her death seemed clear to most viewers, some fans have noticed several details in the episode suggesting that Jinx might still be alive.
Is Jinx dead?
Jinx is one of the most central characters of the series. From her childhood in Zaun to her last scene where she drops from Vi's hand to save her from the platform's fall, people have grown with her since her development started in season 1 back in 2021. In Episode 9, "The Dirt Under Your Nails," Jinx makes a profound sacrifice to protect her sister, Vi. As the two balance precariously on the unsteady Hexgate tower platform, with Warwick gripping Jinx tightly, she takes a bold step. Jinx removes the Hextech from Vi's gauntlets, sacrificing both herself and Warwick to guarantee Vi's safety. She falls and activates her grenade to ensure Warwick, who's completely gone wild, is for sure eliminated.
However, some viewers have noticed subtle clues suggesting that Jinx might still be alive. In the final five minutes of the episode—and the series—we can observe the following details:
- When Jinx hits the ground, a frame-by-frame analysis of the explosion reveals certain colors and shapes that could imply she used Shimmer to survive and escape. This theory gains traction a few minutes later when Caitlyn examines the blueprints of the Hexgates—the building where Jinx was presumed dead. While reviewing the plans, Caitlyn holds a small mechanical monkey head, an emblem Jinx often incorporates into her weapon designs. Notably, Caitlyn smiles upon noticing multiple ventilation shafts in the plans, hinting that Jinx may have used one to flee.
- At the very end of the episode, a dirigible appears, mirroring a scene from Episode 1 of Season 1, where younger Powder dreams of one day leaving the city aboard an airship as she says "One day, I'm gonna ride one of those things". This could serve as a subtle hint toward Jinx’s survival.
- Additionally, several lines of dialogue seem to foreshadow her continued presence. Silco's final words to Jinx, "Find the will to walk away" resonate deeply. Similarly, in Act 3, Jinx tells Vi, "I'm always with you. Even when we're worlds apart." Another moment in Episode 7 features a Jinx from an alternate timeline telling Ekko "Sometimes, taking a leap forward means leaving a few things behind."
We can add to these fan theories that Christian Linke himself has hinted—without outright confirming—that Jinx may have survived. When asked about her fate, Linke responded: "I can neither confirm or deny [that Jinx is alive]. I will say this: her whole story is about turning from the little, bumbling sister into someone who is able to take responsibility and do what a big sister needs to do. Isha is really that example for Jinx. She [Jinx] is starting to understand what it's like to be responsible and to be able to grow and be stronger. Even in that scene [involving Vi, Jinx, and Warwick], there's something where Vi is incapable of kind of sacrificing the ones she loves and leaving them behind. Jinx has a moment where she has grown and she's capable of stepping in, and it's a big decision that's important for her. So, that's I guess, where I'll leave it."
Christian Linke has confirmed that the League of Legends universe will continue, but the follow-up won't carry the Arcane name. This is because the focus will shift to telling new stories, leaving the original characters where they are for now. The series will explore the regions of Demacia, Ionia, and Noxus. Riot Games co-founder Marc "Tryndamere" Merrill clarified that this doesn't mean there will be three separate shows; instead, they are working on new narratives centered around these regions.
